The Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre

The Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre is built on the two Nations’ historical relationship with one another. We formalized this relationship in March 2001 with the signing of a protocol agreement. In it we committed to working together in our shared territory of Whistler, British Columbia. Whistler is a top resort in North America with approximately three million visitors a year. Before the cultural centre opened there was little public representation of the Squamish and Lil’wat Nations.

Now the Nations are represented by the cultural centre, and the Resort Municipality and Whistler Blackcomb acknowledge that they are operating within the unceded traditional territory of the Squamish Nation and the Lil’wat Nation.

The creation of our centre is an act of reconciliation.

The Aboriginal Youth Ambassador Program

The Aboriginal Youth Ambassador Program is an immersive cultural and business program. It teaches the foundations of business through the lens of a First Nations museum. The program is a great way to introduce and encourage our Squamish and Lil’wat Nation youth to celebrate our culture, and is only one of many opportunities both Nations use to encourage their youth to participate in their culture.
